We use
superlatives when we want to compare one thing in a group with all the other
things in the group.

but he was nevertheless killed when an arrow pierced his heel – the only vulnerable
part of his body.

The Silk
Road has the most ancient history; the Silk Road carried not only goods, but
ideas between East and West. China received Buddhism from India and
Christianity from Europe.
